Diabetes Day Education Event Set for Nov. 9

Brookings Health System will hold Diabetes Day, an educational event geared toward people living with diabetes, on Nov. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. The event will be held at the health system in Conference Room A.

“Diabetics personally manage the majority of their care,” said Registered Dietitian Katy VanderWal who heads up Brookings Health’s certified diabetic education program along with Diabetic Nurse Educator Gala Woitte, RN. “Continuous education helps diabetic patients lead healthier lives with fewer long-term complications. Our diabetic education team is hosting Diabetes Day to give our diabetic patients access to free education plus information on the available services, medications, equipment and supplies to help them manage their condition.”

In addition to Brookings Health’s diabetic education team, attendees will also be able to visit with a host of other medical experts. Service booths at the event will include eye care, dental care, wound prevention, foot care, home medical equipment and diabetic supplies. Several pharmaceutical companies that offer diabetic solutions will also be available.

Individuals who should consider attending the event include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics, people newly diagnosed with diabetes, individuals diagnosed with prediabetes and caregivers for diabetics.
