Brookings Health offers free education opportunities to help you learn about labor and delivery, breastfeeding, and caring for yourself and your baby.

Understanding Birth & Baby eClass

Pregnant mom and dad sitting on a sofa while looking at a laptop screen togetherThis self-paced class allows parents to learn wherever they have internet access. The course includes three modules: 

  • Understanding Birth: learn about the stages of labor, common comfort techniques and medical procedures, and communicating birth preferences with your healthcare team. Module Length: 6 - 8 hours
  • Understanding Breastfeeding: learn about how breastfeeding works, when to feed your baby, producing enough milk and breast care. Module Length: 1.5 - 2 hours
  • Understanding Postpartum Health & Baby Care: learn how to care for yourself after you baby is born as well as how to care for a newborn in the first few weeks after labor and delivery. Module Length: 2 - 3 hours

The eClasses are available in eight languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese.

Understanding Birth & Baby Recap

Newborn baby being held in adult handsThis in-person education session offers a recap of the Understanding Birth & Baby eClass. Expecting parents may also ask questions about specific items from the eClass learning. The session includes a tour of New Beginnings Birth Center. Experienced parents who are new to the area or who would like a labor and delivery refresher are also encouraged to attend.
