Activities Update

Fall 2015

August 14, 2015 was a hot and sticky day. Not too hot though for The Neighborhoods to have their annual resident/family picnic. Three months of planning went in to creating “The Neighborhood Hoedown.” Two-hundred and twenty-four people were served during our outdoor picnic event and fun was had by all. Three tents were put up in the parking lot of the nursing home, tables were set with country western themed décor and the front outdoor area was decorated to match.

A Tree for All Seasons

Fall 2015

The residents on Ash Boulevard and Maple Ridge enjoy decorating a seasonal tree located in the Ash dining room for all to appreciate. Residents have come up with some outstanding ideas to bring our seasonal tree to life and assist with the decorating. Some of the charming decorations where created by our crafty residents here on our neighborhoods. We no sooner get one season decorated and they are already contemplating the next design. The next time you are in the neighborhood, please stop by and admire our seasonal tree.

Brookings Health System Foundation Helps Purchase Vehicle

Summer 2015

The Brookings Health System Foundation purchased a new resident transport van for The Neighborhoods at Brookview skilled nursing home. Monies came from the “Make This House a Home” fund, the Foundation’s 2013 campaign which raised over $620,000 to purchase items identified as above and beyond the nursing home building project. The van was identified as a need for the facility during the campaign.

Summer 2015

The residents are excited about the warmer weather and being able to eat or have activities on their patio. Our courtyard is bursting with beautiful, colorful flowers, two tomato plants, a cucumber plant and a green pepper plant. In the last three months we have been busy celebrating birthdays. The residents with a birthday enjoy a birthday meal from outside the facility brought in to them for lunch, a balloon, a birthday card signed by the staff and then celebrate with birthday cake in the afternoon with the other residents, families and staff. A special Happy Birthday to Irene and Josie who turned 100 years old this month. Stop in and see us when you get a chance as there is always something exciting happening in our neighborhood.

Spring 2015

Spring is here and our residents are anxious to start gardening and planting in their courtyards. We are also very excited about going on lots of group outings this summer. The facility has decided to purchase a used handicapped accessible van with our remaining “Lets Make This House a Home” campaign funds. This van will be used for outings, resident appointments, and emergency trips to the hospital.
