Gynecological Surgery and Incontinence Surgery

Brookings Health System offers several types of gynecological and incontinence procedures for women in all stages of life.

da Vinci® Robotic Assisted Surgery - Hysterectomy

Brookings Health System now offers hysterectomies using da Vinci surgery. This minimally invasive surgery leaves less scarring, smaller incisions, less bloodloss and quicker recovery time for the patient. Ask your surgeon if this procedure is right for you. Vaginal or Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Brookings Health System offers minimally invasive vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies. Both vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies remove the uterus through the vagina. These minimally invasive technologies decrease recovery time and pain compared to traditional hysterectomy methods. Your surgeon will help to determine which procedure is right for you.

Urinary Incontinence Surgery

For women who experience persistent urinary incontinence, help is available. Brookings Health System offers minimally invasive surgery to help support the bladder neck using a support sling. The sling is made of soft, synthetic mesh and is placed under the urethra to provide support and help to prevent accidental urine leakage. This procedure is approved for women with stress urinary incontinence, which is he lost of urine when coughing, sneezing or lifting heavy objects.

Uterine Bleeding Procedure

To treat women who experience heavy bleeding, Brookings Health System offers uterine ablation techniques. These techniques work by burning or destroying the uterine lining, or endometrium, which reduces or prevents further uterine bleeding.

Dilation and Curettage (D & C) Procedure

Brookings Health System offers D & C procedures to remove tissue in the uterus after a miscarriage or childbirth. A D & C may also be performed in women with heavy bleeding to rule out uterine cancer or endometrial growths.

Tubal Ligation

Tubal ligation, often referred to as “having your tubes tied,” is a surgical procedure performed at Brookings Health System in which a woman’s fallopian tubes are burned or clipped, resulting in a permanent method of birth control for women.
