Pediatrics Respiratory Care

Pediatrics Respiratory Care

The respiratory care department provides quality care to both inpatients and outpatients who have deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardio-pulmonary (heart-lung) system.

Our expert staff has the latest and advanced equipment to help your child if they have any respiratory illnesses such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, croup, or bronchiolitis.

From the birth of your child, our respiratory therapists provide laboratory testing for respiratory syctial virus (RSV), which is a common virus with cold-like symptoms that can be serious for newborns. They also perform “Car Seat Challenges” to make sure your newborn is safe to ride in a car seat upon discharge.

The respiratory care department can also provide education for parents and children on disease management and medication administration.

Our pediatric services include:

  • Pulmonary function screening to screen for asthma
  • Pediatric Electrocardiogram (EKG) to find the cause of chest pain or unusual heart rhythms. During an EKG, electrodes are attached to your child’s chest, wrists and ankles to record the heart’s rhythm and electrical activity. EKGs provide information on heart rhythm abnormalities.
  • Pediatric cardiac event monitors
  • 24 hour and 48 hour pediatric holter monitoring to record their heart rate and rhythm.
  • Pediatric Electroencephalogram (EEG) involves small metal disks—or electrodes—placed on the scalp, which send information to a machine that creates graphs of electric activity in the brain.
  • Adolescent cardiac stress testing
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Noninvasive ventilation
  • Pulmonary hygiene
  • Nebulizer treatments and the delivery of inhalers
  • Chest physio-therapy
