Summer 2013 Brookings Health System opened The Neighborhoods at Brookview, a new skilled nursing facility to replace the former nursing home, Brookview Manor.

Brookings Health System built a pod-style facility with three distinct neighborhoods. Each neighborhood houses 26 residents and includes a kitchen and living space. The 67,000 square feet structure is triple the former space. An additional 26 rooms could also be added in the future as the community’s needs continue to grow.

The Neighborhoods at Brookview initiated a culture change, creating a home-like, neighborhood environment focused on residents. It adopted the universal worker concept, diversifying staff’s capabilities and consistently assigning them with a small group of residents. With more space and respect for residents’ rights, Brookings Health System’s goal is healthier residents and overall better care.
