Tours of Newly Remodeled New Beginnings Birth Center Set for Oct. 7
Brookings Health System invites the public to tour the newly remodeled New Beginnings Birth Center on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.
The newly remodeled obstetrics unit includes refurbished floors and wall coverings as well as new linens to create a relaxing environment for expectant mothers and fathers. Wall art of babies provided by local photographers crafts an inviting space for newborns to enter the world.
Private bathrooms have been fully retiled to create a similar soothing atmosphere. They now feature certified hygienic whirlpool tubs with mood lights to give mothers a safe way to relax during and after labor.
In addition, two of the postpartum recovery rooms now feature family-centered beds. Family-centered beds are larger in size and allow fathers and younger siblings to move close to mother and baby.
New technology added to the unit includes a Philips Avalon Cordless Fetal Transducer System which measures fetal heart rate, uterine activity and mom’s heart rate while in labor from any location within the unit.
New Beginnings Birth Center at Brookings Health System in Brookings, SD is an eight-bed maternity unit with three labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) rooms and five postpartum recovery rooms. The unit provides full OB services to expectant parents and enables area residents to deliver their baby close to home with a local physician.
