New Year's Baby Arrives at Brookings Health System

It was a very happy New Year for the VanderWal family as they welcomed their new son, Dirk. Pictured from left to right: Carter, Teagen, Alisha, Dirk, Jaci and Chris.Dirk VanderWal, son of Alisha and Chris VanderWal of Brookings, helped ring in the New Year as the first baby born in 2012 at Brookings Health System.

Dirk arrived at 5:52 a.m. on Jan. 2. He weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces and measured 20.25 inches long. Mother and baby are both doing well.

Dirk joins three other siblings in the VanderWal family: brother Carter, age9; sister Teagen, age 8; and sister Jaci, age 5.

As the New Year's Baby, Dirk and his family received a variety of toys, baby products, and over $500 in cash, gift certificates and services from local businesses, individuals and organizations.
