How We Help

Brookings Health System Foundation, created on December 30, 2009, was formed to help build and support Brookings Health System. It is a 501(c)3 organization, legally separate from the health system, and is governed by its own Board of Trustees.

Make a Difference

Brookings Health System Foundation relies on your gifts to achieve its mission; Inspiring people to support Brookings health System through philanthropy, recognizing the vital role of healthcare in sustaining quality of life in our community.

Health Care Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance for Local Breast Cancer PatientsExample: Our partnership with Tough Enough to Wear Pink helps local breast cancer patients with the Breast Cancer Patient Champion program. In addition, your gifts provide financial assistance to in-need cancer patients for chemo infusions, breast biopsies, ultrasounds, mastectomies and breast reconstruction at Brookings Health System and Avera Medical Group Brookings.

Support health and wellness education

Chemotherapy Certified NursesExample: The Foundation supports on-going training for Hospice and Home Health employees and chemotherapy nursing. In addition, Foundation gifts provide full scholarships for children attending the Brookings Health System Therapy Camp and Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 program to fight childhood obesity. Together with local partner Team Isaac, the Foundation works to raise awareness of SIDS and infant sleep practices.

Improve patient care through facility, equipment and technology upgrades

Example: Two phases of Brookings Health System’s Master Campus Plan are now complete. The emergency department and lab opened in April 2011. Investments in robotic surgery, imaging and laboratory equipment occurred in 2013. The Neighborhoods at Brookview skilled nursing facility opened June 2013. A portion of the former Brookview Manor was repurposed to establish an Outreach Specialty Clinic opened in December 2013 allowing patients to see medical specialists here at home. The next step is the hospital expansion and renovation project, "Progress Lives Here," in 2015-17.
